human see, human do

Planet of the Apes was disturbing. I mean...once you get passed the cheesy make-up job and awesome overacting of the seventies - the dialogue really gets to you. The movie masterfully switches the roles of apes and man. The "human see, human do" quote was so literally translated from the other, "monkey see, monkey do" that it hits you. The secular humanist worldview shined through with the quote: "the time is now, that's all there is" The present is all that matters. Also, the obvious evolutionary theme and foundation of the movie coordinates with this worldview. The ending shot is epic. The statue of liberty in all its glory sinking down, muddied by the sand, being eroded by the relentless waves. Yup. It was a movie without hope.
